VI WAPA, VI Legislature, Select Schools to Conduct Evacuation Drills

The VITEMA Director is advising the motoring public to proceed with extreme caution, on Thursday, in areas where tsunami evacuation drills will be held.

“At 10:15 a.m., on Thursday, March 17th, VITEMA will activate the Tsunami Siren System as part of a Caribbean region tsunami response exercise,” the Director said. “The activation of the siren will trigger evacuation drills at the VI Legislature, VI WAPA and select schools territorywide. If you are driving and observe an evacuation drill in progress, I ask that you slow down, yield to pedestrians, and heed traffic instructions.” 

Motorists should proceed with caution in the following areas on Thursday: 

St. Croix

Northside Road in Orange Grove — Juanita Gardine Elementary School, Adult Continuing Education and VI WAPA will cross Northside Road to reach their designated assembly point at AZ Academy. 

New Street, Frederiksted — The VI Legislature will head on New Street to reach Claude O. Markoe Elementary School.

St. Thomas

Crown Mountain Road — Ulla F. Muller Elementary School, will use Crown Mountain Road to reach the Towers Condominium Complex parking lot.

Veterans Drive — The VI Legislature will cross Veterans Drive and head toward Mafolie Guest House parking lot.

St. John

The Round-About at Cruz Bay — Julius E. Sprauve School and the VI Legislature will walk along Prince Street, then onto Centerline Road, to reach the Seventh Day Adventist Church parking lot.
