St. Croix, VI – The Virgin Islands Department of Public Works will distribute sandbags in the St. Croix district from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. today. There will be no distribution of sandbags in the St. Thomas, St. John district.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s forecast at 11:00 a.m., Tropical Storm Dorian will travel 100 miles southwest of St. Croix, bringing between 1 to 3 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts of up to 5 inches between late tonight and tomorrow. Dorian is also forecast to produce wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph to the area.
Distribution locations are:
- Department of Public Works, Annas Hope
- Grove Place Fire Station
- Cotton Valley Fire Station
Residents are limited to up to ten (10) bags per household; this will allow all residents requiring sandbags to be serviced. Pre-filled sandbags are available for elderly and people with disabilities, access and functional needs.
U.S. Virgin Islands residents are encouraged to continue to prepare for the duration of the hurricane season which concludes on November 30.
