Tropical Storm Jerry VIPA Advisory #1

September 18, 2019

The United States Coast Guard has set seaport conditions territory-wide to X-Ray at 8 p.m. tonight in preparation for the projected arrival of gale-force winds associated with Tropical Storm Jerry. Port Condition X-Ray means that all vessels and port facilities must ensure that potential flying debris is removed or secured and Coast Guard safety regulations regarding storm preparations should be implemented. VIPA advises all mariners and users of the seaports to comply with the Coast Guard’s regulations.

The management of Crown Bay Marina on St. Thomas has notified VIPA that their marina will be closed to all vessels at 3 p.m. tomorrow, September 19, 2019. It applies to all vessels berthed at Crown Bay Marina – including the Water Island ferry. VIPA will provide temporary berthing for the Water Island Ferry at the Austin “Babe” Monsanto Marine Terminal’s excursion dock tomorrow from 3 p.m. until Crown Bay Marina reopens.

Airports are open today and will be open tomorrow. As of 4 p.m. today VIPA has received no notice of airline cancellations. Travelers are encouraged to contact their airlines directly as flight information may change due to the possible inclement weather.

VIPA will continue to monitor the weather reports and inform the public of airport and seaport conditions via advisories, radio announcements and social media pages on Facebook and Twitter.
