U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS—Governor Albert Bryan Jr. announced that he is closing the Government of the Virgin Islands at noon on Monday, September 23 as Tropical Storm Karen makes its approach to the Territory.
The Governor ordered that all non-essential employees be dismissed at noon so they can make preparations for the storm’s impact on the Territory. All essential government personnel—as determined by your immediate supervisors—are required to report to work as normal.
The 12 p.m. closure of schools and government offices is to allow government employees to make need preparations ahead of tropical storm Karen and to allow for a safe and secure commute ahead of any anticipated port closures late Monday.
The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) will be issuing periodic updates on the progress of the storm. Residents and guests are urged to be alert to these updates by visiting vitema.vi.gov and signing up for Alert VI. Updates from VITEMA are also available on the Government Access Channel (VIYA channel 27) or via local radio.
