St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands - The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) extends its gratitude to the community following the successful management of this past weekend's tsunami advisory on February 8. The event provided valuable insights that will strengthen our emergency response protocols.
"This real-world event demonstrated the importance of our emergency alert systems and community preparedness," said Director Jaschen. "We're particularly encouraged by the overnight surge of more than 400 new Alert VI registrations, showing our community's commitment to safety."
Building on this momentum, VITEMA announces its participation in Caribe Wave, the annual tsunami exercise scheduled for March 20, 2025. This year's exercise will simulate a distant tsunami advisory scenario, similar to this past weekend's event, providing an excellent opportunity for community members to practice their emergency response plans.
This weekend, VITEMA invites the community to visit our booth at the Annual Agricultural Fair, where we're partnering with our Partners in Preparedness to offer an exciting opportunity. Residents who sign up for Alert VI or demonstrate their existing registration will be entered to win one of two brand-new generators.
"The Agricultural Fair is a perfect venue to engage with our community about emergency preparedness," added Regina Browne. "We're making it easier than ever for residents to stay informed and prepared while having the chance to win essential emergency equipment."
