The VITEMA Director participated in the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) 2018 Conference held in Savannah, GA which began on Oct. 1, 2018.

VITEMA advises residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands to prepare based on their current situation.

On Sept. 18th to 21st, 2018, VITEMA hosted a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on St. Croix.

Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to gradually weaken as it approaches the territory of the USVI.

Based on the event, VITEMA will determine which shelter locations will be opened to receive the public.

The St. Thomas offices of VITEMA, located in Nisky, will be temporarily closed during the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Friday, September 7, 2018.

The calls placed by Mr. Sprauve were not received or recorded in the 9-1-1 Emergency Call Centers.

Normal hours of operation will resume on Monday, August 27, 2018, at 8:00 AM.

Homeland Security visits to discuss the Territory’s ongoing recovery.

The purpose of the trip was to listen, learn and shine a light on the ongoing crisis.

Governor Mapp met with V.I. Public Works Department personnel this week to prioritize planned road work and to review a list of ongoing and recently completed projects.

Meeting to discuss advancing the rebuild and repair of Virgin Islands schools, hospitals and public housing, needed to protect residents in the event of a major storm this season.

It provides an additional 26 weeks of disaster-related unemployment assistance for the USVI (totaling 52 weeks following the disaster declarations for Hurricanes Irma and Maria.)

As the U.S. Virgin Islands recovers from last year’s hurricanes, this job and wage thaw creates numerous opportunities to attract and retain necessary staff to assist in the Territory’s recovery.

Parades followed by brief ceremonies are planned for 9:30 a.m. Monday on both St. Thomas and St. Croix. The parade route begins at Bassin Triangle in Christiansted and at Western Cemetery in Charlotte Amalie.

Lt. Governor Osbert Potter will represent the U.S. Virgin Islands at the ceremony.

The additional aid represents tens of millions of dollars in cost savings to the Virgin Islands.
