The Emergency Home Repair of the Virgin Islands (EHRVI) Program currently has over 500 skilled roofers working in the Territory to replace roofs that were destroyed by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. All roof repairs and replacements must comply with the new Virgin Islands building codes that were updated in April 2018.

The Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) would like to urge any resident whose home is currently being repaired by the (EHRVI) Program to please contact their case manager at 1-855-378-0799 with any questions or complaints and be ready to explain in detail the nature of the issue.

“We want homeowners to know that we are here to assist if they are having any concerns with the work being done by the various contractors in the program,” said Daryl Griffith, VIHFA’s Executive Director.

The EHRVI Program is a FEMA reimbursement program also known as the Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power (STEP Program). Phase 1 of the Program was initially approved to perform minor emergency repairs in single-family, owner-occupied homes. Approximately 5,500 homes have been repaired through the EHRVI Phase 1 Program.

In August 2018, FEMA expanded the EHRVI Program to include permanent roof repairs and replacements that were previously not covered. Initially, the roofing program was slated for completion on January 31, 2019; however, an extension was granted until March 31, 2019.

In Phase 2 of the EHRVI Program, permanent code compliant roof repairs have been completed on over 1,000 homes. In just under eight months, the EHRVI Program would have completed permanent code compliant roof repairs on over 1800 homes.
